Brenda and Alan Campbell formed the original northwest bullmastiff club, the
Greater Northwest Bullmastiff Fanciers, in 1977. Throughout the 80s, the club
experienced significant growing pains. In 1992 the club transitioned to a new
phase changing its’ name to the Northwest Bullmastiff Society (NWBS). Membership
was reinvigorated for a time but this proved to be short lived.
In the mid 1990s, the club declined in participation and by 1997 membership fell
to a record low of less than 10 members. Later in that year, a dispute arose over
club leadership and direction. The membership split, some remaining in the original
club, NWBS, and others forming the new Cascade Bullmastiff Club (CBC). The northwest
Bullmastiff community became effectively divided and an era of conflict ensued.
In the summer of 1998, several members from each club worked together on the
National Specialty held in Olympia, WA. This led to other successful joint efforts
and, eventually, to the realization there no longer existed any substantial reasons
for the schism. In November of 1999, a unification proposal was drafted by the
Presidents of the two clubs and sent to the memberships. The response was positive
with both clubs voting overwhelmingly for unification.
The united club was renamed Cascade Northwest Bullmastiff Club (CNBC), and became
operative February 1, 2000. A revised constitution and bylaws were approved in
the spring, and officers elected in June.
